Forestry Maintenance at Brackmills Woodland, Northampton

Brackmills Woodland is situated to the northwest of the Brackmills Industrial Estate in Northampton. It extends to some 18.5 hectares and provides screening between the industrial units and the neighbouring villages. In addition it has been designed to provide facilities for passive recreation and an attractive site for wildlife.      

We managed and maintained the site, on behalf of English Partnerships, for several years. Our original work involved producing an as built survey of the whole tract and deriving a schedule of the constituent parts from the survey data. Contract documents were then prepared and prices were obtained from the trade. We make a recommendation on the most advantageous tender to the client and supervise and oversee the ongoing works on a monthly basis.

The photographs depict the general nature and the extent of the site. They also show herbicide regimes in the mixed conifer and deciduous forestry planting, differential mowing regimes, hard surface footpaths and a wetland feature. The site is a useful example of multi-purpose forestry which provides the widest range of possible benefits.
